Privacy Policy

In short: this tool is designed to need as little of your data as possible. We don't ask for your name, email or street address, we don't store your IP address, and we don't use tracking cookies. We count visits to the site and keep a first-party record of comparisons run on it, so we can improve it and understand which features are useful.

Who we are

CompareBolt is an independently run website that helps Australian households compare electricity plans. This policy explains what information the site collects and what it is used for; our terms of use cover the rest, including our independence from every retailer we rank.

What we collect

To rank plans we use what you enter: your postcode, your usage figures or the answers to the guided estimator, and your filter choices. When you press “Compare” we keep a record of that search, the results we returned, and which retailer link - if any - you then clicked.

We also keep simple visitor statistics: which pages are viewed, the website that sent you here (if any), your browser, device type and screen size, your country, and whether you pressed “Compare” or a retailer link. They run on our own server and are not sent to an analytics company.

How we use this information

To run the comparison and rank plans.
To understand how the tool is used - how people find it, and which pages, searches, plans and retailers they find useful - so we can improve it.
To measure click-throughs to retailers (see “Links to retailers” below).

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to build a profile of you as an individual.

What we deliberately do NOT collect

Your IP address. We never store it. When a page loads, our visitor statistics use it for a moment to work out which country you are in and to count unique visitors without a cookie, and then discard it. It is not used to identify you.
Personal information. No name, email, phone number, or login. We don't create accounts.
Cookies. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and our visitor statistics use none at all. If we later introduce advertising or affiliate partners who set their own cookies, we'll update this policy accordingly.

Links to retailers

When you click “Visit Retailer”, you leave our site and go to the retailer's own website, which is governed by their privacy policy. We record that the click happened (and which plan it was for) so we can understand our traffic.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we'll change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, make it clear on the site.
