By using this website you accept these terms and our privacy policy.

CompareBolt is an information service. We calculate what published electricity plans would cost against either the actual usage that you provide to us, or a modelled estimate of your usage based on questions that you answer.

Plan prices come from the government registers that retailers are required to publish to - the same source as energymadeeasy.gov.au and compare.energy.vic.gov.au. We extract and re-cost every plan overnight, 7 days a week. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, either government service.

Every calculation is made on a best-endeavours basis from the published data. We can't guarantee that data is complete or free of error, and we can't guarantee your future bills will match what we show - they depend on how much power you actually use, when you use it, and on prices that can change after you sign up.

How we compare plans sets out exactly what we do and don't include in our calculations.

Always check the retailer's own energy fact sheet before you commit.

We can only work from what you tell us. If your postcode, usage figures or answers to the guided estimator are wrong or incomplete, the ranking we produce may be incorrect. When you choose “Not sure” as an answer in our estimator, we estimate that figure from published benchmarks.

What we do with the information you enter is covered by our privacy policy.

CompareBolt is independently run. We are not owned by, and are not affiliated with, any energy retailer, and no retailer can buy a higher ranking. We don't take payment for placement, and we will never put sponsored listings at the top of the results.

The site currently carries no advertising and earns nothing. That may change: most likely advertising, referral fees from retailers, or both. If it does, our results will still be ranked solely on the calculated cost of the usage entered, plus any incentives chosen to be included in the calculation. About us explains this in full.

You're welcome to use CompareBolt to compare plans for yourself. The following actions are a breach of our terms:

• scraping, crawling, bulk-downloading or systematically extracting our data or results;
• copying, re-publishing, reselling, or building a competing service on our comparison results;
• framing the site or presenting it as your own;
• placing unreasonable load on the site, or trying to reach parts of it you haven't been given access to.

The plan data is public and can be retrieved directly from the government registers, but only as it stands today. The restrictions above apply to our costings, rankings and comparison results, and to our record of how plan prices have changed over time. They do not apply to the current register data itself.

When you click through to a retailer you leave CompareBolt, and are then subject to that retailer's own terms and privacy policy. Check their fact sheets and their terms and conditions before signing up to a new energy plan.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded. The rest of this section applies only so far as the law allows.

Subject to that, the site is provided as it is: we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any plan shown will suit you, and we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it - including any decisions you make on the figures we generate, an error or omission in the data published to us, or the site being unavailable.

If you have a complaint about a plan, a bill or the way a retailer has treated you, raise it with the retailer directly. Contact your state or territory energy ombudsman if you need to escalate it further.

We may update these terms from time to time. If we do, we'll change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, make it clear on the site. Continuing to use CompareBolt after a change means that you accept the updated terms.
